Eye and Vision Exams

Eye and vision exams are an essential part of family eye care. They are what allow eye doctors to diagnose and treat problems. However, many people don’t know what these exams entail. Here is what you need to know about eye and vision exams.

Eye and Vision Exams

Comprehensive Eye Exams vs Vision Checks

While both tests are an important part of eye care, they serve different purposes. A comprehensive eye exam checks the physical structures and physiologic function of the eyes for any issues that might not be observed through a basic vision check. Meanwhile, a vision check solely tests your vision without examining the health status of the eye. Dr. Graham utilizes both exam approaches to establish a thorough overview of your eye health and visual function.

What Is a Comprehensive Eye Exam?

An eye exam is a physical examination of the structures of the eyes, as well as its physiologic function. Dr. Graham will also take images of the back of your eyes as well as administer eye drops to dilate them during your exam. Dilation may be required for certain systemic health conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. Dilation may also be required in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.
